The Greatest Gift

My blog chose is about The Greatest Gift. I can relate to this essay because I am a mother myself. It is discouraging to find out that motherhood is not like it is on television.
In this essay she got in a slump and could not understand why motherhood was not like the families on television. Her main focus wason Martha Stewart and how perfect she was. She did not understand why her life was not like Martha's. It did not help that her nieghbor and her baby, around the same age as her baby, seemed to have the perfect life she wished for. Family and friends overwelmed her when they came to meet the new baby girl. All she wanted was to curl up and for them to go away. When the relatives and friends finally calmed down and her husband had to return to work, it got even worse. All she di during the day was sit on the couch and watch television. On the television ther was a mother who killed her children and the writer felt she could relate to her. Not killing her child but the depression. She felt she was depressed about having a child and not getting what she expected. When her husband brought home a puppy she knew the puppy was going to be hard to take care of. She would have to feed, walk, and potty train the puppy. When she was cleaning up a potty mess she was thinking about how hard it was to have a puppy. Then she realized that her baby should be more important then the puppy. She went and got her daughter out of bed and just cuddled her, loving her like she was supposed to. She realized how perfect her baby and life is.
During this time Martha Stewart was sentenced to jail and right then she knew nobody is perfect, not even Martha Stewart.
